Why is this story important?

  • WhatsApp improves its native app by introducing some user-friendly features.
  • A new feature in iOS allows users to react to messages sent within community announcement groups.
  • On the other hand, Android’s text/drawing editor tools allow users to customize their content and make it look better.
  • This may seem like a small addition, but it shows WhatsApp’s commitment to improving the user experience.

Message reactions in announcement groups for iOS

Many users have reported being unable to respond to messages sent within WhatsApp’s community announcements group.

As a result, the platform has begun work to provide functionality that allows users to express feedback within CAGs by simply adding reactions.

WhatsApp previously worked on a “message reactions” feature for Android. We are currently developing it for iOS as well.

You should not reveal your phone number in React

WhatsApp keeps the participant list private within the community announcement group to ensure participant privacy.

Therefore, the platform restricts users from reacting to messages within these groups. This is just to reveal your phone number.

In addition to the “message reaction” feature, WhatsApp is trying to mask contacts when users react to messages in announcement groups.

A new font is added to the Android app

WhatsApp is also revamping the text/drawing editor in its Android app.

The new editor introduces tools like the placement text manager along with several fonts that allow users to add creativity to the text in images, GIFs, and videos. This makes your content more visually appealing.

The list of new fonts includes Courier Prime, Calistoga, Morning Breeze, Damion, and Exo 2.

You will not be able to use new fonts for text statuses

WhatsApp’s upcoming font is said to be exclusive to the in-app drawing editor. Users cannot use them for text status updates or chat messages.
