What’s Working: Mobile man shares how he kept fitness New Year’s Resolution

MOBILE, Alabama (WKRG) – Tonight’s What’s Working proves that some people are actually keeping their New Year’s resolutions. We met a mobile man who was determined to get healthy two years ago.He keeps his promises.

Two years ago, John Grow weighed 279 pounds and says he was morbidly obese. He went to a doctor with news that shocked him to take action.

John Grow weighed 297 pounds and lost 90 pounds. His doctor said he needs to take a statin. He decided to lose weight and has been able to avoid medication ever since.

“My doctor said, ‘I want to put you on a statin,’ and I said, ‘I can do it myself,'” Gro said.

he did it himself. He has lost 90 pounds by exercising more, whole grains, cutting out sugar and eating whole grains.

“I’ve done resolutions before, but the problem with that resolution was with me,” Groh said.

Fitness is a common solution for many at gyms across the country, including Crunch Fitness on mobile. General manager Camilla Newsom says there are many new members. She recommends setting small goals. For example, at a time she moves up to 10 pounds, or heavier. She also tells us not to give up even if it temporarily breaks her resolve.

“Do some stretching or maybe just walk for five to 10 minutes and start there,” said Newsom. “If you have kids, bring them. You just want to be active.”

Gro said setting small goals is key to his success.

“I set your goals small,” Gro said. “I set my goal at 10 pounds. Then I moved on to the next 10 pounds and then the next 10 pounds.”

He adds that the key to success is forming habits.
