Super Mario Odyssey Android Gameplay On RedMagic 7S Pro Looks Gorgeous

A Redditor uploaded a video of Super Mario Odyssey Android gameplay working perfectly. This post contains a 30-second clip of him showing Mario running around New Donk City, and he spares no detail as far as showing movement and animation. Mario does best with his moves in crowded scenes, but his frame rate rarely drops below his 60 FPS.

This isn’t the first time we’ve covered an Android emulation of Super Mario Odyssey, but it didn’t look very good the last time we saw it. The texture issue was a big one and really made it unplayable.

The Nubia RedMagic 7S Pro is the hardware behind this video. I talked a little bit about the RedMagic series before, and I have high hopes for the latest model. High-spec gaming phones have pretty serious hardware, so when it comes to graphics-intensive stuff, they outperform most other phones.

The user didn’t elaborate on the emulator used for this feat, but one look at the UI tells us that this is the work of Skyline, an open-source Nintendo Switch emulator for Android devices.

This could be Skyline Edge, an early build sibling of Skyline. This includes the latest updates and is available to anyone who has pledged at least £5/$5 to his Patreon of the Skyline team, his implementation of Skyline Edge in this manner is subject to debate on the outcome. Although difficult to do, it is sometimes controversial.

Super Mario Odyssey was first released for Nintendo Switch in 2017. It’s a 3D platformer and, as you can guess from the footage, it looks really nice. Obviously this is great, but modern graphics present more challenges for emulators.

Anyone who has played a platformer understands that timing is very important. Frame drops that can be missed in some genres can quickly make your Android emulation of Super Mario Odyssey completely unplayable.

Luckily, if you have very powerful hardware behind it, this may not be a problem.
