It’s been a terrible time for the company, with Apple’s butterfly keyboard failing left and right across the MacBook, MacBook Air, and MacBook Pro lineups. If you fail yourself, you could be part of a $50 million settlement.
The settlement covers people in the United States who purchased a MacBook, MacBook Air, or MacBook Pro between 2015 and 2019 and had to replace the keyboard or keycaps due to Apple design flaws. 3 groups of people can claim their share, but we’re running out of time. The March 6th deadline is fast approaching.
Replacement
The Barge (opens in new tab) People who have had to replace their keyboards multiple times report being able to get up to $395 in compensation, but it’s wasted time replacing the keyboard once or individual keycaps. People can claim If that’s you, you can get up to $125 on that keyboard replacement, or up to $50 on replacement keycaps.
In addition to that March 6th date, there’s another issue to be aware of — the work must have been performed by Apple or one of its authorized service providers. When I did it within 4 years of purchase to participate in a class action lawsuit.
Also keep in mind that these numbers are just a guideline and will decrease if more people claim than expected.
This happened after Apple repeatedly released Macs with ill-fated butterfly keyboards. The company is aware that the keyboard is not fully functional and claims many have had to replace the keyboard multiple times. Problems included keys not working or getting stuck at the slightest sign of dust or debris.
Apple eventually ditched the butterfly keyboard and quickly made the new machine the best MacBook money can buy.
