Samsung is about to say goodbye to a reasonably successful year for the Korean brand. The Galaxy S22 series builds on the sales momentum of its predecessor, with the company’s latest foldable device outperforming most 2021 devices in terms of surviving a global market decline. It did better than its rivals.
We already have a pretty good idea of how the upcoming flagship Galaxy S23 series is shaping up, but there are still plenty of ways Samsung can improve matters next year. Here are our thoughts on how to do it.
Offer a more exciting foldable

Ryan Haynes/Android Authority
Let’s be honest. The Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Flip 4 are basically last year’s phones with a few upgrades, and it takes a fair amount of effort to tell the two generations apart.
It’s clear that Samsung needs to offer more exciting foldable devices in 2023 if it wants to maintain its commercial momentum and positive critical reception. We have a lot. For example, it significantly reduces wrinkles, is more dust resistant, offers a high-quality foldable screen, and offers high-end camera technology.
opinion: Galaxy Z Fold 5 needs S Pen slot even with smaller battery
As colleague Ryan Whitwam thought in an opinion piece earlier this year, we’re even seeing a variant of the Galaxy Z Fold 5 with an integrated S Pen slot. It seems like a logical next step after bringing us pen support. , Samsung can’t afford to rest on its laurels next year.
Launch Galaxy Watch FE

The Galaxy Watch 5 series was more an evolution of the Galaxy Watch 4 line than a revolution, but we really liked it. We really hope to keep our course in high-end wearables.
That said, I would love to see the Korean brand launch something like the Galaxy Watch FE to offer a cheaper alternative from rival smartwatch makers. , Fitbit Versa 3, Garmin Venu Sq, and more with lower-priced wearables to keep the Apple Watch SE undercut.
Give me a Galaxy S23 FE

Samsung has skipped the Galaxy S22 FE for 2022. This was disappointing news for fans of the affordable flagship FE series.
Needless to say, we really hope to see the Galaxy S23 FE in 2023. At $600-$700, the S23 FE will be a big hit in Samsung’s portfolio in much the same way the Galaxy S20 FE was a big hit in 2020. would be a welcome addition to
We’re guessing that the future Galaxy S23 FE will cut back on the design (using plastic instead of glass) and the camera first. As far as offerings go, this should be a great proposition.
Stop at any exclusive feature

Chris Carlon / Android Authority
Samsung offers a wide range of ecosystem products and its smartwatches and earbuds are among the best in the game. Really need to stop next year. This means Samsung needs Galaxy smartphones for many features of its ecosystem products.
For example, the Galaxy Buds 2 Pro only support high bitrate audio, spatial audio, and automatic device switching when paired with a Galaxy phone. That’s not all. The Galaxy Watch 5 Series requires a Galaxy phone for key features such as ECG readings and blood pressure monitoring. This is a pretty silly limitation if the hardware clearly supports the feature anyway.
Either way, I really hope Samsung will be able to take advantage of more ecosystem product features when paired with non-Galaxy phones. It feels like a clumsy attempt at
Enable seamless update

We’ve mentioned this before on our 2022 Samsung wishlist, but it turns out the manufacturer has skipped a seamless update for Galaxy smartphones yet again.
For starters, this is a more modern take on the system update process. Your phone downloads and installs system updates in the background while you’re using it, then seamlessly restarts your phone to apply new updates. However, Samsung insists on sticking with the traditional update method. This will make your phone unusable while the update is installed. Specifically, I can’t use my phone for 10-20 minutes because I have to look at the “installation” screen instead.
you told us: Does your phone support seamless updates? Many readers don’t know
I can understand why Samsung and some brands are less enthusiastic about seamless updates, as they require more storage than traditional update methods. However, we believe that the price you pay for a very useful feature is small. With that said, it looks like seamless updates could finally become a must-have feature for Android 13.
That’s it for the list of must-see changes from Samsung in 2023. What about you?
