Amazon has previewed a new customer terminal for personal use, separate from Project Kuiper’s Internet from Space project. Project Kuiper uses a small constellation of satellites to provide broadband access to users around the world. However, it is primarily intended for areas that are underserved or underserved by current Internet technology. Customers with compatible devices can receive broadband signals in a “smaller, more affordable and better” design. Amazon’s baseband chip, Prometheus, will support this project.
“Prometheus leverages the processing power of the 5G modem chips found in the latest smartphones, the ability of cellular base stations to handle traffic from thousands of customers at once, and the microwave backing to support powerful point-to-point connections. It combines the functionality of a hall antenna,” said the company.
