A free program for girls in grades 10 and 11 in Title I schools. Participants receive FAA Drone Pilot Certification, which includes drone field research, career research, a 24-week practicum, and drone flight.

Gretchen West was a 2019 Commercial Drone Alliance and 2017 Woman to Watch Award winner. Shellie Baxter focuses on commemorating future generations of the BIPOC community through her approach “Legacy Tracing”. Christine Asaro is an Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) expert leading these her SDG&E efforts.
The “Girls Take Flight” program aims to provide 10th and 11th grade girls a unique opportunity to explore a career in the drone industry. The event will be held from 5:30 pm to 7:00 pm at the Elementary Institute of Science, 608 51st Street, San Diego, CA 92114.
This event is open to 10th and 11th grade girls and their families and friends. Attendees can learn about the program and hear from featured speakers about their experiences and successes in the industry.
Food and drinks are provided. Participation in the kick-off event is free of charge.
