Sony has announced a new PlayStation Discord integration that will allow users of the popular PlayStation 5 game console to join Discord voice calls and voice channels on the device itself. This feature does not yet come with the standalone Discord application on the PlayStation store. This means users will have to join the audio call on their computer, mobile phone, or other supported device before transferring the call to the registered PS5 console.
This is a big change for PlayStation 5 gamers who are active in communities, friends, and online Discord environments who previously had to join Discord calls via another device. This separation made it difficult, if not impossible, to handle game audio and Discord audio on the same audio device, such as a personal headset.
The new PlayStation Discord integration is a welcome change, as console fans have been anticipating the release of the full Discord application on PlayStation 5.
