Content review of both sites
Crunchyroll has one of the most complete collections of anime with a total of over 30,000 episodes and over 1,300 titles. Popular titles include Death Note, Fullmetal Alchemist, Attack on Titan, Naruto, Dragon Ball Z, and One Piece. There are also many original series that get a modern take on the title. The Spring 2023 season collection is mostly on Crunchyroll. Subscriptions also provide access to premium mobile games, members-only events, theatrical distribution, merchandise, digital manga content, and exclusive titles.
Funimation has a better description of the show compared to Crunchyroll. Show clips are not available in Funimation. If you want to watch anime dubbed in English, Funimation is your best bet. A huge collection aimed at an English-speaking audience. You won’t find many dubs on Crunchyroll. Also, there are more/better subtitles. The upcoming new series is mostly on Crunchyroll after the acquisition, and there’s even a banner on the site announcing the same.
Also, keep in mind that content varies by country. Clearly, the US has the most content on both sites.
Browsing convenience
Tweaking Crunchyroll’s UI is a bit tricky. It has a huge collection of content that can be filtered based on season, genre, alphabet, popularity, and more. Genres include comedy, romance, science fiction, music, action, adventure, fantasy, shoujo, teenage, shounen, and supernatural.
Funimation is intuitive to navigate. It also groups content by genre, popularity, and season. There are more descriptive texts about the series/episodes.
With the same pricing and content transition from Funimation to Crunchyroll, the winner is clearly Crunchyroll. These sites, like Netflix and Prime Video, also have new competitors to consider.
