Microsoft began rolling out new Carbon Aware updates for Xbox consoles in February. If the console has internet access, the user can set the console to schedule updates for games, apps, and other operating system updates that rely on local carbon intensity stats. Doing so may also help you take a more conscious approach to your electricity bill.
Now all Xbox users will also be able to take advantage of the company’s “shutdown (energy saving) option”. Turning this on can reduce your console’s power consumption by up to 20x. Microsoft explains, “For every two consoles that switch to shutdown (energy saving) for a year, it saves an amount of carbon equivalent to that removed by one of his trees planted and grown over a decade.” I’m here.
