Pittsburgh, Pa. (Issuewire.com) March 17, 2023 – Joyce Bender, founder of Bender Consulting Services, today announced a significant program that will become the company’s national initiative in 2023. Known as the Bender/Coelho Disability Consortiumthis partnership between the vendor and former congressman Tony Coelho, author of the Americans with Disabilities Act, will enable competitive employment by hiring 10 people with disabilities from the vendor at 10 different companies. Specifically, the consortium will work with Corporate America to fill 100 of these positions by the end of 2023.
This effort comes at a critical time for people with disabilities seeking employment. It’s been more than 30 years since the landmark Americans with Disabilities Act was passed and signed into law. While we have made great progress through the ADA on a variety of issues affecting our community, Bender’s team understands that unemployment in this community is still at alarmingly high levels. Sadly, the needle is not moving in the employment sector.

Tony Coelho, as the primary author of ADA, brings unparalleled experience and vision to this effort. Tony has fought for disability rights his entire life. Tony, like Joyce, has lived with epilepsy and understands the struggle to overcome the stigma barrier. When asked about the consortium, Tony said: “The ADA was and still is a game-changing law, but this is not the end of our fight. We have so much work left for so many people.
