Band of masked men carry out brazen smash-and-grab at Birmingham Apple store

An investigation is underway following the brazen theft of a Birmingham Apple store in the Summit Shopping Center on Friday morning.

At least three masked men rushed into the store before 10:30 am. Before leaving the store, Display unlocked his cabinets and grabbed as many phones as possible.

“They went straight for the goods and ran out,” Birmingham Police spokesman Truman Fitzgerald said.

There were multiple customers in the store at the time of smash and grab. No weapons were on display and no injuries were reported.

The suspect fled the scene in a dark SUV.

Police investigators immediately notified the Huntsville Apple store as a precaution.

“I’m going to find out if this is a ring,” Fitzgerald said.

It was not immediately clear how much merchandise had been stolen.

“For a group of individuals to enter one of the busiest shopping areas during business hours shows just how daring criminals can be in our society,” said Fitzgerald.
