The Apple Watch is set to be the center of attention throughout this year’s World Surf League season. The WSL has announced that the Apple Watch has become the league’s “official wearable device” and that there will be a new his WSL Surfer app that “provides athletes with vital information in real time.”
This is the first time the Apple Watch has been named “Official Athlete Equipment in a Professional Sports Environment”. Throughout the Championship Tour (CT) season, WSL CT elite athletes will have access to the new WSL Surfer app on the Apple Watch series. 8 and Apple Watch Ultra to keep you informed while you’re in the water during competition,” the league explained in today’s press release.
The WSL Surfer app, specially developed for Apple Watch, syncs with the WSL scoring system in real time. This gives competitive athletes the information they need right on their wrist, including scores, wave priorities and time in heats. The Apple Watch is particularly well suited for this task due to its large bright screen, durable design, and cellular connectivity.
WSL attendees will receive either an Apple Watch Ultra or an Apple Watch Series 8 before each heat, and that device will come preloaded with the WSL Surfer app. We tested the technology over two seasons to ensure it “meets the needs of the competition”.

Today’s announcement comes as Apple TV+ plans to debut Season 2 of its documentary series. make or break, It’s about “traveling the world in the best professional surfing competing for the world title”.
