Apple supplier Jabil has reportedly moved production of its plastic AirPods enclosures to a manufacturing plant in Pune, western India, marking the iPhone maker’s growing domestic manufacturing activities.
Apple is gradually asking its suppliers to move parts production away from China. The last few months have seen Apple ramping up iPhone production in India.and reports suggesting that Apple Watch and MacBook production could soon move to Vietnam As part of the company’s efforts to consider moving factories outside of China, Tensions between the United States are the main driving force behind this move.
According to a report from bloombergJabil’s India division is currently shipping AirPods enclosures or plastic bodies to China and Vietnam, where wireless earbuds are assembled.
India is expected to play an integral role in Apple’s manufacturing efforts over the next few years. India expected to produce half of the world’s iPhones by 2027.
