A flooded dog in San Bernardino County, California, was rescued by firefighters with the help of an Apple AirTag.
One-year-old Australian Shepherd Seamus was equipped with an AirTag and a more conventional ID tag when he fell into the rapid flood waters that washed him away.
“He just left me and fell down this drain,” Sheamus’ owner Emily Brill told ABC7 New York. (opens in new tab)“The water was running so fast. I just put one foot in it and I think he was gone.”
The local fire department located a mile away from where Seamus fell thanks to a local employee who heard a dog barking in a nearby waterway. The San Bernardino County Fire Department confirmed in a Facebook post that it “examined the dog and found no injuries and appeared to be in good health.” (opens in new tab).
Apple’s Find My network and AirTag on the collar helped track down the owner to reunite him. “I was just blown away by that level of response from our emergency services,” Brill said.
Apple will launch the AirTag in late 2021, and since then the device has established itself within Apple’s ecosystem for consumers. Since its release, AirTag has been in the news for many reasons. Stories such as Finding Seamus present the device in a positive light, but more sinister examples such as stalking have been reported.
Apple’s Find My network has a variety of use cases and a variety of accessories that allow users to track their location. The best Find My accessories range from trackable bikes to headphones, but the AirTag becomes an essential accessory for dog owners.
