Apple AirTag hidden under the hood of marked NYPD vehicle

An Apple AirTag was found hidden under the hood of a NYPD vehicle in Queens, police sources said.

A coin-sized tracking device that connects to Apple’s “Find My” network was found in a police car on Sunday. The AirTag was in a small plastic bag.

The findings prompted NYPD Housing Division Director Martine Materasso to remind department members to pay attention to the marked vehicle inspections that are scheduled to take place before and after the tour.

“In light of the anti-police sentiment not only seen here but across the United States, please be vigilant,” Materasso wrote in an email sent to officers. “Please continue to take care of each other and stay safe.”

“AirTag was designed to help find personal belongings, not to track people or other property, and we condemn misuse of our product as strongly as possible,” the company said in February. said in a statement.
