Android 14 may bring changes to the share menu: Details

Tech giant Google plans to release the first developer preview builds of its Android 14 operating system in the coming weeks. As we got closer to the rollout, rumors started flying about what features and changes to expect in the Android 14 OS.

Reportedly, Android 14 may change the share sheet on Android devices. Esper’s Mishaal Rahman has discovered that the tech giant has developed an experimental hidden copy of the share sheet that exists within his Android 13.

Android’s share menu is currently inconsistent with apps and custom skins. This slows down the sharing process between Android devices. Android Police reports that the company has been working on enhancements to its share sheet for some time.

The speckled share sheet looks just like the existing share sheet in terms of appearance and functionality. However, there is a mainline module to deal with shared menu discrepancies. Google is said to add new apps to the system image in Android 13 QPR1 beta.

The Android 13 QPR1 source code shows that the new “Intent Resolver” app handles Android’s implementation of the “chooser” code. Android Sharesheet allows users to choose which app to use for share actions.

Previous reports suggested that Google was working on a new feature that would allow Android 14 users to stay connected to the internet even after getting very old. This feature allows Android users to renew root certificates or digital certificates belonging to an issuing authority.

In other news, Google has released a new Material You design for the Nearby Share app on Android devices. This update is available for all Android devices. The new Material You has a visual change to the main he UI that users connect to in the Nearby Share app. Additionally, there is a new wave animation that runs from left to right as the application looks for and connects to nearby devices.
